2008 2007 2006 2005 2004 2003 2002 2001 2000 1999
23 December 2007Tonight at 8pm Swedish time, Telia Digital TV's entertainment channel (channel 777) will broadcast a specially recorded Peter Jöback concert.. The concert was especially performed for this purpose on 18 December. There is no word yet as to whether this concert will be released on DVD. Peter performed "Jag sjöng varje sång för dig" at an awards show on 16 December. You can see the performance below.
Peter's Christmas album has been number one on the Swedish mid-price album chart for the last four weeks.
30 November 2007
Another new Peter song has just been released, this time on a Secret Garden CD. Secret Garden are a Norwegian-Irish duo who play beautiful instrumental music. They won the Eurovision Song Contest for Norway in 1995 and have gone from strength to strength since then. Their new album "Inside I'm Singing" has taken some of their best known pieces and written lyrics for them. The duo then invited a number of vocalists to perform the songs. Artists like Barbra Streisand, Elaine Page and, of course, Peter Jöback. Peter sings the song "Thank You" and you can hear a clip from it at Secret Garden's official website - www.secretgarden.no.
It appears that Peter's latest single "Han är med mig nu" is a download single only. There are no extra tracks or remixes. It is charting well on the Tracks chart, a chart voted for by listeners of the Swedish radio program of the same name. It is currently sitting at number five. With Christmas approaching, "Jag kommer hem igen til jul" is selling well again and is currently number one on the mid-price album chart. According to Peter's official site, "Människor som du och jag" has now gone platinum in Sweden. And now a few YouTube treats. The first clip was from a TV show Doobidoo broadcast on 23 November featuring Peter and jazz singer Rignor Gustafsson. The second clip is from a recent Football Gala. Peter performed "Han är med mig nu" live with Pernilla Wahlgren. The last clip goes way back to 1993 and is the promo clip for the second single from Peter's debut album. A great clip and a great song featuring a very young Peter.
29 October 2007Hard to believe but today is the tenth anniversary of this website, still the only (as far as I know) English website dedicated to Peter Jöback's career and talent. I first discovered Peter in January 1997, courtesy of a video of some of the latest ABBA-related clips from Sweden. The video was shown at the first ABBAMAIL convention to celebrate 20 years since ABBA had toured Australia and when Peter came on the big screen singing "Guldet blev till sand" from a Finnish TV gala, the whole room stopped and held its collective breath. Peter's performance of the song was just mesmerising and it wasn't just me who was captivated. I spent 1997 discovering the magic of "Kristina från Duvemåla" through the CDs, an English translation on the internet and the novels. Of course, I loved Helen Sjöholm, Anders Ekborg and the rest of the cast, but it was Peter and his voice that stood out for me. I was hooked. I got increasingly frustrated by the lack of information about Peter on the internet. There were bits and pieces but not that much. I discovered the Peter Jöback Board, where fans would talk about all things Peter. I could practice my Swedish and I also made some friends who I still know today. Finally, I had enough of the lack of good sites and created this site on 29 October 1997. It looked very different back then and thankfully it has changed for the better over the years. For a short while, I maintained both English and Swedish versions of the site but that quickly became too time consuming since my Swedish was not very good. I first got to see Peter perform live in the London production of "Miss Saigon" and then in early 1998, a dream came true when I saw "Kristina från Duvemåla" in Stockholm with Peter starring as Robert. Both amazing performances and amazing productions. Since then I have seen Peter in a number of musicals and concerts. I have often coordinated trips to London and Stockholm (and on one occasion, Copenhagen) around a Peter performance. As recently as last week, I arrived back from Stockholm after seeing Peter on his latest concert tour. And what an experience that was. I will write a review of the concert over the next few days. I want to thank the supporters of the site for their continued support over the last ten years. And of course, a big thank you to Peter for the music and for the inspiration behind this site
27 October 2007Peter will be performing two Christmas-related concerts in the first part of January to commemorate Epiphany (religious celebration on 6 January when the Wise Men found Jesus in the manger). The concerts are known as Trettondagskonsert and are being held on 5 January 2008 at Konserthuset in Stockholm. Times are 3pm and 7:30pm. Nick Davies is conducting. Tickets are available at www.ticnet.se but make sure you select the Stockholm concerts if you intend to book. The other Trettondagskonsert concerts listed in Örebro, Norrköping and Jönköping do not feature Peter.
26 October 2007An extra concert has been added for Göteborg on 30 October 2007. The concerts for the rest of the year are now:
Due to the success of the tour so far, extra dates have been announced for January 2008.
The next single from the album will be the duet "Han är med mig nu" (He is with me now) with Annika Norlin. There is no release date as yet nor is there a tracklisting. Stay tuned for more details. "Människor som du och jag" debuted on the Swedish album charts at number two. It is currently at number twelve. It went as follows: 2-5-8-10-12. It has been certified gold. The album has also done well in Norway, peaking at number twelve. Chart positions over the last four weeks were: 28-15-12-14. It has also gone gold in Norway. The album will be released in Finland on 7 November 2007. The official site now has videos for viewing. There are "Hon ser inte mig", "Higher", "Tonight" and "Stockholm i natt". Click on the Videor link on the navigation bar. There is also a series of "Dogma videos* where Peter mimes to a song in a fun way while he is touring, There is a link on the Start page of the site. You have to be a registered member of the site (free) and be logged in. Peter is writing a blog for Aftonbladet while he is on tour. Click here for the blog. It is in Swedish. It is currently the same as Peter's diary (Dagbok) at the official site. Also, at the official site, there is now official Peter merchandise for sale. Click on Köp in the navigation menu and then on the "Handla Merchandise" banner. There are t-shirts, badges and a poster. These items are also on sale at the concerts.
22 September 2007Peter's official site has a new look as the screengrab above shows. Click on it to visit the site. The theme is in keeping with the new album. The site has a number of new wallpapers to choose from. You need to be a registered member of the site to download the wallpapers. Registration is free. Check it out. You can hear another of the songs from the new album at Peter's official MySpace page. "Hur Hamnade Jag Här" is featured along with "Stockholm I Natt" and "Always On My Mind" from the "Storybook" album. You can listen to samples of all the songs from the album by clicking here. Click on the play button in the "Lyssna" column. The album has already sold gold after only a few days of release, which is a great sign. An American fan advises that the new album is available on the US iTunes. It still hasn't appeared on the Australian iTunes. Peter is signing CDs this weekend in Stockholm (Saturday) and Göteborg (Sunday). Sarah Dawn Finer's new single will be "Stockholm By Morning", the song co-written by Peter and featuring Peter on backing vocals.
18 September 2007
Peter's new album "Människor som du och jag" is released in Sweden tomorrow. The titles of the two bonus tracks on the digipack version of the new album have been revealed at the CD Specialisten website. They are "Blinka lilla stjärna" and "Charlie, Charlie". The former is the title of the Swedish version of the children's song "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", which seems an odd choice. It will be interesting to hear what Peter has done with it. The release of the digipack version will be a week later on 26 September 2007. Two more of the songs from the album can be heard on the internet. Peter performed "Jag sjöng varje sång för dig" live on the TV program Nyhetsmorgon on 9 September 2007. You can view the video by clicking here. Peter was interviewed on the Swedish radio station P3 Star and as part of the interview, they played "Jag ångrar ingenting jag gjort". You can listen by clicking here and then selecting the show dated 15 September 2007. Peter appears in the second hour. One of the songs on the new album is a duet with Annika Nordin (aka Säkert) and is a humorous story about stealing a guy from a girl. It is probably "Han är med mig nu" (He is with me now). "Stockholm i natt" is number 2 on Svensktoppen for the third week running. Let's hope that the top spot is not far off. It is currently number 11 on the singles chart after dipping to number 20.
A new compilation of Swedish music called "Absolute Svenskt 1.0" comes out on 26 September 2007. It contains three songs featuring Peter - "Stockholm i natt", "Italy vs Helsinki" (with Laakso) and "Stockholm By Morning" (Sarah Dawn Finer with Peter on backing vocals). The double CD contains a good cross section of current Swedish pop music.
Australian singer Eran James has covered the song "Freeway" best known as the song recorded by Peter for his "I Feel Good (And I'm Worth It)" album in 2002. Eran has included it on his "Touched By Love" EP which is now out in Australia. "Freeway" is written by Tom Nichols, Alex Von Soos and Wayne Hector. Peter was the first to record it in 2002. The following year, Russian duo Smash! recorded it as the title track of their debut album. It was released as a single later in 2003 and you can watch the video below.
30 August 2007"Stockholm i natt" has climbed to number 4 on the Swedish singles chart and has debuted on the Svensktoppen chart at number 3. Well done Peter.
24 August 2007
The digipak version of Peter's new album will be more than just different packaging. It will also contain two extra songs, a video and a thicker booklet. This will be the version of the album to get. Peter has started his own blog today. Check it out. http://www.peterjoback.com/blogg In its third week on the Swedish charts, "Stockholm i natt" dipped to number 11. It is climbing again and this week is sitting at number 9. You can listen to a live recording of "Stockholm i natt" recorded for Swedish radio on 16 August. Click here. The Discography page has been updated to include information on the new album, the song "Wings Of A Swan" and Peter's contribution to Sarah Dawn Finer's album. It has also been restructured so that promotional CDs are now in their own section.
19 August 2007Here is my translation of the lyrics for "Stockholm i natt". I would like to give a big thank you to Moi for helping me with a few of the tricky bits. Since the song refers to places and people in Stockholm, wherever possible, I have provided an external link to help explain the reference.
15 August 2007www.cdon.com has revealed the track listing for "Människor som du och jag". The English title in brackets is my translation.
The site also reveals that there will be a digipak version of the album.
12 August 2007Better quality pictures of both the single cover and the album cover are available. Please click on a thumbnail above to see a larger version. "Stockholm i natt" climbed to number 7 on the Swedish singles chart this week, a jump of 15 places. "Människor som du och jag" can now be pre-ordered from www.bengans.se and www.ginza.se. Peter had the following to say about the album and the single in an interview on the SVT site.
6 August 2007
Above is the first look at what might be the cover for "Människor som du och jag". This was found on the internet and is not yet confirmed as the final version of the cover. "Stockholm i natt" debuted at number 22 on the Swedish singles charts. This was based purely on download sales since the physical single had not been released at that stage. The song should go higher once sales from the physical single are taken into account. You can hear "Stockholm i natt" (under Provlyssna) and watch the video at the Roxy Recordings site. Both the song and the video are now on Peter's official MySpace page. You can add the song and the video to your profile to help promote Peter. If you live outside Sweden and "Stockholm i natt" is not available on your country's iTunes, write nicely to info@roxyrecordings.com and ask them to make both the song and forthcoming album available internationally. Peter has lots of fans around the world due to his connection with ABBA via his role in "Kristina från Duvemåla". If you live outside Sweden and "Stockholm i natt" is available on your local iTunes, please write to me at grant@joback.nu so I can include that information on the website. Thanks. If you live outside Sweden, the single can be purchased at www.bengans.se and www.skivhugget.com. Residents of the European Union can also purchase it at www.cdon.com. At Stockholm Pride last Saturday, Peter performed "Stockholm i natt" and joined Laakso for "Italy vs Helsinki" as expected. He also sang "Over The Rainbow" with Markus from Laakso. Sarah Dawn Finer recently performed "Stockholm By Morning" live on the TV show Sommarkrysset. You can watch it below. Peter wasn't there.
1 August 2007Two more dates have been added to Peter's tour.
Aftonbladet has reported that Peter has a role in a new Swedish film. The film forms part of a series of films based on the detective novels by Mari Jungstedt. The two novels are currently being filmed on Götland and are "Den inre kretsen" (The Inner Circle) and "I denna ljuve sommartid" (In The Delightful Summer Time). The article is not clear on which film Peter would be in or if it is both. Peter's manager Marie Dimberg is quoted as saying that the role is a small one but exciting for Peter just the same. Sarah Dawn Finer has added "Stockholm By Morning" to her My Space page. This is the song co-written by Peter and featuring Peter on backing vocals. To hear the song, go to http://www.myspace.com/sarahdawnfiner
31 July 2007
Peter will be appearing at Stockholm Pride this Saturday, 4 August. He has confirmed that he will perform "Stockholm i natt". As mentioned previously (see 15 July below), Laakso are also performing so it is more than likely that Peter will join them on "Italy vs Helsinki". This will be Peter's first appearance at Stockholm Pride. Source: http://www.qx.se/nyheter/artikel.php?artikelid=5346 On the front page of the official site, it is now saying that "Stockholm i natt" will be in record shops on 8 August, which means that it has been put back one week. So far, only one online CD store is listing the single for purchase www.ginza.se and they are still saying the release is 1 August. The download of "Stockholm i natt" is selling well. It is number 2 on the CD On download chart and number 3 on iTunes. You can watch the episode of "Allsång på Skansen" with Peter online on SVT's website. Click here and then click on Se Programmen. You may have to select your viewing preferences (Real Video or Windows Media Player) before continuing. To see the episode, click on Allsång Program 5 (24/7 2007). As a bonus, if you click on Allsång Program 5 - den extra halvtimmen!, you can watch a bonus 30 minutes that was not broadcast on TV. In this bonus, Peter performs "Sommarens sista sång".
25 July 2007"Stockholm i natt" can be heard and seen at Peter's official site. The complete audio of the song can be played at the top left of the screen and the video clip is at the top right of the screen. A wonderful song which is sure to be a big hit in Sweden. There is a link underneath the audio player to pre-order the physical single. Click on FÖRHANDSBOKA STOCKHOLM I NATT" and then select your language. There is also a reference to the single being available as a download from iTunes. You will need to check your local iTunes since it may only be available in Sweden. I can confirm that it is not available at the Australian iTunes. Let's hope this decision to restrict Peter's music is reversed. Peter has fans all around the world who would all want the opportunity to buy Peter's single and new album. The video is also available on You Tube.
Peter co-wrote "Stockholm i natt" himself with Niklas Frisk and Andreas Mattsson. The duet that Peter sang with Marie Lindberg at Skansen is a Swedish version of the Mary Hopkin classic "Those Were The Days".
24 July 2007
Peter's new single "Stockholm i natt" is out right now as a digital download. It has appeared at the following two Swedish download stores. Both stores allow you to hear 30 seconds of the song which is revealed to be a beautiful piano ballad.
It has been confirmed that the physical single will be in stores on 1 August 2007 and the album follows on 19 September. The record company is Roxy Recordings as previously thought. It appears that the single will be only the one track unfortunately. Peter will perform "Stockholm i natt" for the first time at Allsång på Skansen tonight.
21 July 2007Aftonbladet has given the release date of Peter's new single as 1 August 2007. The single has not appeared on any of the major online stores as yet. The date is unconfirmed at this stage so stay tuned.
18 July 2007Peter's official site has revealed the name of the first single from the forthcoming album - "Stockholm inatt" (Stockholm Tonight). It will be premiered this coming Tuesday 24 August.
15 July 2007Swedish Radio have organised a concert in Stockholm on 25 August in Kungsträdgården. The concert is called "SR i Kungsan" and features a number of performers, including Peter. Peter will perform songs from his new album. It will be a busy day for him since he will also be appearing at Gröna Lund for Sommarkrysset. Thanks to Siv for this information. Laakso will be appearing at Stockholm Pride on 4 August. Although there has been no mention of Peter making an appearance with them but it is quite possible. Peter did make a surprise appearance with Laakso last month at Hultsfredsfestivalen, Sweden's biggest and most prestigious music festival. He came on for an encore and sang "Italy vs Helsinki". See the pictures below.
14 July 2007
It appears that Peter's new label is Roxy Recordings, the same label that released "Cabaret" and Sarah Dawn Finer's album. The Roxy Recordings website is listing Peter's new album with a release date of 19 September 2007. According to Peter's diary at his official site, recording of the album is now finished and there is just some mixing left to do. He is currently taking a break before he debuts the new single on "Allsång på Skansen" on 24 July. There is still no title for Peter's single, although SVT refers to it as Peter's "Stockholm song". Apparently, there will be a video for the single directed by the same person who directed the "Italy vs Helsinki" video. In an interview, Peter described the new album as being more dramatic and more pop than "Det här är platsen". On 25 August, Peter will appear on the TV4 program "Sommarkrysset" which will be broadcast live from Gröna Lund. No doubt, he will perform the new single.
14 June 2007Peter will appear on the popular Swedish TV show "Allsång på Skansen" on 24 July 2007. It will be his seventh appearance on the show. The SVT site reports that Peter will premiere his "Stockholm song" on the show. Sarah Dawn Finer's album (see below) debuted in the Swedish charts at number two. A "new" song from Peter has appeared on the internet. It is called "Wings Of A Swan". It is a song written by Stephen Schwartz for a Danish musical called "Mit eventyr" (My fairy tale) based on the life of Hans Christian Andersen that premiered in Copenhagen in November 2005. Peter did not appear in the musical but recorded the song which only came out on a promo single in Denmark. You can hear the song and watch a fan-made video by clicking here. Peter and his partner Oscar were involved in a hot air balloon accident on Sunday. Due to an unexpected storm, at least ten balloons crash-landed around Stockholm. Eight people were injured but fortunately, Peter reports that both he and Oscar are unhurt and are feeling fine, despite being forced to land in a lake.
31 May 2007
Sarah Dawn Finer is known to Peter fans as the singer who accompanied Peter on his Christmas tour in 2002 and can be seen on the Christmas DVD. She also supplied backing vocals on the "Jag kommer hem igen till jul" and "Det här är platsen" albums. Sarah was in the spotlight in her own right earlier this year when her beautiful ballad "I Remember Love" made it to the Melodifestivalen finals and consequently sailed into the charts, reaching number four. It is still in the charts three months later. Yesterday, Sarah's debut album "A Finer Dawn" was released in Sweden. Apart from Sarah's beautiful voice, what makes this album of interest is a song written by Peter and with Peter on backing vocals. The song is called "Stockholm By Morning". On Sarah's official site, she explains about the song (my translation):
For more information about Sarah, check the following sites.
27 May 2007
Peter Jöback's first and very rare self-titled album is now available to buy as an official download. The album has been out of print for many years and has been sought after by many fans. In October 2006, it was finally made available to Swedish download sites. Unfortunately, it is only available to Swedish residents although anyone can hear clips from the songs at the following link. http://www.poplife.se/Magellan/pages/main.jsp?storeId=10151&pageId=collectionDisplay&viewId=1324081 In other news, well-known Swedish DJ Emil Hellman (aka Soundfactory) has produced three remixes of "Italy vs Helsinki".
The remix is currently sitting at number 16 on the Swedish dance charts, moving up two places from last week. Unfortunately, the remixes are only available to DJs and not the general public "Italy vs Helsinki" has dropped off the sales charts but is still sitting at number 5 on the Trackslistan chart. There is a new space on the web for fans of Peter called PJ World. Check it out. There are hundreds of photos once you have signed up.
10 May 2007"Italy vs Helsinki" has entered the Swedish singles chart at number 28. It also entered the Trackslistan chart at number 5. Trackslistan is a chart voted on by listeners to the Tracks radio program. You can vote for the song by clicking here. Don't forget that "Italy vs Helsinki" can be purchased on iTunes in most territories. The website Daily Motion has a good selection of Peter videos. Click here to visit.
4 May 2007Two nights ago, Laakso performed live on the radio show P3 Live Sessions. Peter made a surprise appearance and sang "Italy vs Helsinki" with the group, followed by a short interview. It appears that the radio show will stay up on the internet for 30 days. To access it, go to: http://www.sr.se/cgi-bin/p3/nyhetssidor/sandningsarkiv.asp?programID=2663 Click on the link "P3 Live Session med Asha Ali och Laakso". A new window will open and the show should start playing. If you don't want to hear the whole show, click on the next button in the media player which will take you to part 2 (the show is in two parts). Peter's appearance is about 45 minutes into the second part. Peter starts recording the new album on 14 May 2007 in a studio in Skåne in southern Sweden. The album is expected to be released on 26 September to coincide with the first concert in Växjö.
The Diamond Dogs are a Swedish drag group. For Stockholm Pride last year, they recorded a short video starring Peter. Peter is walking around Stockholm and is being stalked by the Diamond Dogs. It's fun and a clip from the video is included on a Diamond Dogs showreel on You Tube. Peter's part appears at 4:29.
There is a photo gallery from the filming at http://www.diamonddogs.nu/dd/joback.asp A bit further back in time. A short clip of Peter singing "Higher" live during his 2001 tour.
3 May 2007Peter's official site has announced details of Peter's forthcoming tour as well as the title of his new album. Peter will visit 11 towns and perform 22 concerts over an 11 week period. At the same time, he will release his new album ”Människor som du och jag” (People like you and me). For the album, Peter has collaborated with songwriters Niclas Frisk and Andreas Mattsson. Peter says:
The album is being recorded by Simon Norberg with Peter Kvint as producer. Peter Kvint produced the two new songs from last year's "Flera sidor..." collection. He has also worked with many Swedish artists including Andreas Johnson, Martin Stenmarck, Louise Hoffsten and The Ark. He also produced "When I Found You" for Britney Spears. The musicians for the album and the tour are:
The concert dates are as follows:
Tickets go on sale on 4 May 2007 through www.ticnet.se and the usual outlets in Sweden. The cost is 425kr plus booking fee.
21 April 2007
The Laakso album is now out in Swedish shops and the single (the cover is above) will be out on Wednesday 25 April 2007. "Italy vs Helsinki" can now be purchased via iTunes in most territories.
The video can now be viewed on You Tube (above). In Peter's diary entry for 16 April 2007 at the official site, he reveals that he will be going into the studio again soon to continue working on his new album. Once again he is working with songwriters Niclas Frisk and Andreas Mattsson. It is planned to release the album in the European autumn (i.e. between September and November). Has Peter left Sony? On Peter's official MySpace page, his record company is listed as "previously Sony BMG". The Discography, Biography and Links pages have also been updated.
13 April 2007
The name of the song is "Italy vs Helsinki". Peter sings the Italy parts and Markus sings the Helsinki parts. The video for the song is a big production and can be seen at the following link. http://www.animero.com/v2music/laakso/Neutral/ You can also listen to samples of tracks from the Laakso album by clicking on Provlyssna. The final performance of Cabaret is just over a week away, on 21 April 2007.
23 March 2007Is it "Helsinki vs Italy" or "Italy vs Helsinki"? There seems to be no consistency in how the title of the new single from Peter and Laakso is being reported. Laakso's official Myspace page says the latter and the good news is that you can listen to the whole song there. http://www.myspace.com/laaksolaakso You can also listen to the song at Svenska Dagbladet's website. A big thank you to Siv for finding this. Under the heading Musik, it says "Lyssna på Laakso och Jöback". Click on the button that says Spela to hear the song. http://www.svd.se/dynamiskt/noje/did_14831397.asp Laakso's new album is released in Sweden on 18 April 2007. It appears that the single will be released as a one track single only. The actual release date of the single is unclear. Peter's official site says March but some of the online stores are saying 25 April, a week after the album.
2 March 2007Peter is about to be featured on a new single to be released on 21 March 2007. He has recorded the song with the group Laakso called "Helsinki vs Italy" and it is a duet with Peter and Laakso's singer Markus Krunegård. The song will also be featured on Laakso's new album "Mother, Am I Good Looking?". "Cabaret" was recently named Show of the Year by the Swedish gay publication QX. Mauro Scocco will include his version of "Mellan en far och en son" (originally written for and recorded by Peter) on his new album "Ljudet av tiden som går" to be released on 28 March 2007.
4 February 2007Peter has another hit on his hands. The Swedish cast recording of "Cabaret" debuted at number 7 on the Swedish album charts. For those who have the CD of "Cabaret", there is a hidden track. If you let the CD keep playing once the final song is finished, an instrumental piece starts playing about six minutes later.
The single of "Jag står för allt jag gjort" has finally been released according to Megastore on 25 January 2007. It only contains the one track. Swedish singer/songwriter Mauro Scocco worked with Peter on his "Den här är platsen" album from 2004 contributing six songs as well as one song for Peter's Christmas album. Well, Mauro is releasing a new album on 16 March 2007 called "Ljudet av tiden som går" and he will include his version of one of the songs that he has written for Peter. It's not sure which one at this stage. Well-known Swedish singer Nanne Grönvall has published this great photo of her with Peter in the diary at her official site. She says the following about Peter:
9 January 2007A special Myspace page has been set up to promote the "Cabaret" original cast recording CD and it's in English. The best thing is that you can listen to four of the songs from the CD including "I Don't Care Much" which sounds very different from the version on Peter's "Storybook" album. Click here: http://www.myspace.com/musicalcabaret In other news from the official site, the "Flera sidor..." album has now been certified double platinum, selling over 120,000 copies in Sweden. It was number one for nine weeks and has spent a total of six months in the charts. Peter's Christmas album spent five weeks at number two on the mid-price album chart. |
