Norwegian cover for Peter's Christmas album

The Norwegian pressing of Peter's Christmas album has a different cover. See above. Unfortunately, I do not have a bigger version.

Peter's Christmas concert tour is well underway and is receiving rave reviews. Peter's duet partner, Sissel, made a surprise appearance at the first concert and performed the new single with Peter. For some pictures from the different concerts, please check the Gallery page.

On 28 November, Peter made a guest appearance at Sissel's Christmas concert in Oslo, Norway.

The single "Gå inte förbi" debuted on the Swedish charts at number 14 and then entered the top 10 at number 9. The new version of the Christmas album reentered the charts at number 27 and then jumped up to number 7.

On 16 November, Peter appeared on the Söndagsöppet TV show. He performed "Gå inte förbi". Check the Gallery page for screen caps. Many thanks to Jan for these images.

More pictures of Peter as the Emcee in Cabaret have been added to the Gallery page.

The DVD has been delayed due to a production fault and is now expected in shops on 19 December 2003. Unfortunately, some faulty copies have surfaced and if you have one of these then you should return it for exchange from where you bought it. The faulty copies do not contain the bonus features and the picture continually pixilates.

12 November 2003

The DVD, single and rereleased Christmas album are released today in Sweden.

It appears that the single only has one track, the duet with Sissel. You can hear a 30 second clip from the song at the Sony Music Sweden site.

The DVD is the TV concert that was broadcast on TV 4 last year and not an actual concert as previously mentioned. www.ginza.se lists the contents as follows:

1. Jul, jul strålande jul
2. Ave Maria
3. Gläns över sjö och strand
4. Snön föll
5. Viskar en bön
6. Guds frid i gode vise män
7. O helga natt
8. Decembernatt
9. Jag kommer hem igen till jul
Bonus: Gå inte förbi
Commentary from Peter about all the songs.

The DVD is region-free and is in PAL. The sound is in Dolby Digital 5.1.

25 October 2003

Expressen are reporting that Peter will be taking part in Melodifestivalen in 2004. Melodifestivalen is the pre-selection to choose the song to represent Sweden at next year's Eurovision Song Contest. He previously took part in 1990 but was unsuccessful.

The song is in English and is called "Still Believe". It is written by Johan Bejerholm, Jonas Sahlin and Emil Heiling.

Thanks to Tony for this news.

Above are the covers for the new Peter single and DVD that are released on 12 November 2003 in Scandinavia. These images are full size.

The single is "Gå inte förbi" (Don't walk by) and is a duet with Norwegian singer Sissel Kyrkjebø. It is an Irish folk song that has also been recorded by Van Morrison with the title "Be thou my vision". The Swedish lyrics have been written by Ulf Schagerström. There will be a promotional video clip to accompany the single.

"Gå inte förbi" will also be a bonus track on a rerelease of Peter's Christmas album, also out on 12 November

The DVD is called "Peter Jöback - Jag Kommer Hem Igen Till Jul" and will feature a Christmas concert filmed last year. It is not yet confirmed what the DVD extras will be but the video clip of "Gå inte förbi" will be included.

News of Peter's future plans after Cabaret and his Christmas tour have come to light, courtesy of the newspaper, Göteborgs-Posten.

Peter's Christmas album "Jag kommer hem igen till jul" will be rereleased with a bonus track. The album will also be released in Denmark and Norway, as a starting point to launching Peter as an artist in other Nordic countries. As previously mentioned, there will also be a Christmas concert DVD.

After Cabaret, Peter will start recording a new pop album. The album will be in Swedish and will feature songs written by the likes of Mauro Scocco.

Peter has also been in discussions about a newly-written musical in London. However, he is really interested in trying non-musical theatre and film roles.

Peter Jöback and Andreas Lundstedt

This is a picture taken earlier this year at the party after Melodifestivalen. Peter is pictured with former Stage Four bandmate, Andreas Lundstedt. Click on the image to see a larger version.

27 July 2003

Expressen has announced that Peter's old group Stage Four may reform for a one-off at Melodifestivalen 2004 (Swedish Eurovision Song Contest heats). The story appears in the print version of the newspaper and not online.

Stage Four was a short-lived group from the late 80s featuring Peter, Andreas Lunstedt (currently with Alcazar), Lisa Nilsson and Lizette Pålsson. The group performed on TV and at the 125th anniversary celebrations of Dagens Nyheter - a major Swedish newspaper.

This is nothing definite since not all of the group members have been spoken to yet. It is more likely that if it happens then it would be a one-off performance just for the show, and not as one of the competitors. All four members of the group have competed in Melodifestivalen individually. Peter competed in 1990 with "En sensation".

Thanks to Annette for the article.

The Biography page has been updated.

Peter with Per Gessle

On the official site, Peter says that following the Victoria Day concert, he will be taking a small holiday before starting rehearsals for Cabaret.

Lisa Nilsson and Peter Jöback perform on stage

The gala concert was a success. Peter performed "Varmt igen" from last year's Christmas album and "Hon ser inte mig", the 1999 single from the Asterix movie. He also teamed up with Lisa Nilsson to sing the Aretha Franklin/George Michael duet "I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me)".

The concert was televised and will be repeated on Swedish television on 19 July 2003.

Peter head shot

Peter reveals his plans to the end of the year in an interview with Aftonbladet.

PETER JÖBACK SAYS NO TO WORK IN LONDON

This autumn (fall) he premieres in Cabaret. In November, he starts a Christmas tour. Then his first DVD is released.

But right now, it's just a holiday that concerns Peter Jöback.

- I have said no to big jobs in London, he says.

We saw him perform on Victoria Day. But it was also the only thing Peter Jöback will do this summer.

- I am looking out to have a peaceful summer and recharge the batteries, says Peter.

On 19 September, however, it starts up again. He will then go to Copenhagen and premiere in Cabaret.

- I play the Emcee for two months. Then there will be a Christmas tour with songs from last year's Christmas album.

Interviewer: I have also heard that you will release a Christmas DVD?

- Yes, it will contain a few Christmas things we did last year, including a live Christmas concert as well as footage from the tour bus, backstage and some bonus material.

I: Any other plans on the horizon?

- I have lots of ideas all the time but you have to stand still and take it easy sometimes. Previously I was so goal-focused and planned everything so far in advance, but there is so much that you can get through if you just look straight ahead.

I: A new album then?

- It is clear that it will happen but not when. It will happen when it feels right.

I: London again, perhaps?

- Of course you get lots of requests but it is tough there, eight performances a week and a ten month contract.

I: So, you've said no to big jobs there?

- Yes, I have. You feel within yourself that perhaps it's not the right opportunity at that time.

I: Do you feel you have changed lately and revalued things in your life?

- Yes, you must pay attention to your success but not work yourself into the ground.

Thanks to Annette, Siv and Paul for news.

Per's new album is called "Mazarin" and interestingly includes Per's version of "Varmt igen", first released by Peter on last year's "Jag kommer hem igen till jul" album. "Mazarin" is released in Sweden on 16 June.

21 May 2003

Göteborgs-Posten interviewed Peter about Cabaret. Thank you to Siv for alerting me to the article. My translation follows.

SUCCESSFUL TEST START FOR JÖBACK IN CABARET

Peter Jöback surprised many in Copenhagen on the weekend - with a provocative image in the musical Cabaret.

- It was so much fun to get to do the moves, be vulgar and wear a corset, to touch people a little here and there.

Peter Jöback sounds overjoyed, almost bouncing off the walls, when he rings up from Copenhagen after Saturday night's success introduction into Cabaret. Straight after the phone call, he will return to the theatre. Actually it is a test run, since Jöback won't be in Cabaret until the autumn. So he can find out if he could play the main role in stead of the regular Troels Lyby.

- It was a little brave to take part at such short notice, to step in for a big name and still get the audience on side, says Peter Jöback.

For Cabaret, they built a nightclub in the Gladsaxe Theatre with a bar where the audience can sit and drink among scantily clad women and the set isn't much more than three doors and some stools, tells the singer.

- Everything takes place with the body and imagination.

He has never performed in Cabaret before, but loved the film. The Danish musical version is of course less "Americanised", he mentions, More "burlesque and vulgar". The lead role of the Emcee fascinated Peter Jöback who gets the chance to change his image.

- Many are used to seeing me primarily as a lover or as a young boy adrift in society, so this role may be a surprise.  The Emcee is so androgynous. I get to be vulgar, touch people a little here and there and then I have the corset.

How was it to play against Paprika Steen?

- She is a really nice girl and I have seen her in the movies "The Celebration" and "Open Hearts". You notice that she is such a big star here in Denmark. But we don't play directly opposite each other. I play more of a demon who oversees every scene and do my own numbers with the girls.

After Witches of Eastwick and eight performance per week for sixteen months, Peter Jöback was rather  worn out.

- Even though it was fun and big and international, the excitement disappeared a little. Back then, I wanted to go home and write music again. Now I have the energy to do Cabaret, which is a step in another direction.

Have you decided yet - pop or musicals?

- I want to try everything and do whatever's fun. In Denmark, there is a film world which is enticing me, which I am investigating as well. I have a new record project and am planning some Christmas concerts.

Peter Jöback will be going to Göteborg at the beginning of June. Then he will performing in a musical evening at the concert house with a symphony orchestra and Bernstein and Sondheim on the program.

20 May 2003

Peter will be appearing at this year's Victoriadagen concert held to celebrate Princess Victoria's birthday on 14 July 2003 in Öland. Other performers include Robyn and Per Gessle.

Expressen has reviewed Peter's performance in Cabaret and given him the thumbs up. Here is a translation of part of the review.

The Emcee is Peter Jöback and he is the performance's big surprise. He shows a previously unknown range which we did not suspect he had.

In Danish, German and English, he takes over the stage like an ingratiating and unpredictable song-and-dance man.  Using small gestures like facial expressions and glances, he is able to have a big effect.

Peter Jöback captures the audience right at the beginning with the knock-out number "Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome" and never lets them go after that. He was also the big audience favourite judging by the excitement, laughter and tears.  Sure we knew that Jöback could sing, but he is able to demonstrate an unexpected acting talent which the audience falls headlong for.

13 May 2003

Peter attended the Polar Music Prize Ceremony yesterday. Aftonbladet were there and captured this shot of Peter with Swedish actor Pernilla August who is probably best known to international audiences as Darth Vader's mother in Star Wars Episodes I and II.

Pernilla August and Peter Jöback at the Polar Music Prize Ceremony.

12 May 2003

The Official Site reports that Peter will be playing in the majority of performances in the Danish production of "Cabaret" between 19 September and 16 November this year.

Tickets for the show can be booked at the Gladsaxe Theatre. The site is in Danish. If you cannot understand Danish, try emailing them at billet@gladsaxeteater.dk.

Peter has already made some appearances as the Emcee and has received rave reviews.

12 April 2003

Peter will be performing in concert with the Göteborg Symphony Orchestra in June. He will be appearing in two shows on 4 and 5 June at the Göteborg Concert House. Tickets can be booked at www.gso.se.

The show has been described as a musical evening of Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim.

11 April 2003

Peter Jöback will be appearing in the Danish production of "Cabaret" from 19 September until 16 November. He will be playing the Emcee, the male lead, opposite Danish superstar Paprika Steen. The production will play at the Gladsaxe Theatre in Copenhagen.

Peter is very excited about the challenging role since it will allow him to bring out his darker sides.

During April, Peter rehearsed with the Danish cast and did some test runs in the role.

Fleming Enevold, the director, thinks that it is an amazing coup to get Peter. He raves about Peter's charisma, voice and ambition, saying it is of the highest international standard.

Aftonbladet also reports that Peter is planning a new solo album but the details are suitably vague.

Here are links to the story. It also features at the Swedish version of the official site so it's not just some silly rumour.

27 January 2003

The Roxette website The Daily Roxette has created an e-card of the song "Varmt igen" from Peter's Christmas album. The e-card features the whole song as well as images of Peter and Christmas. A bit late for Christmas but you might like to check it out. Depending on your internet connection - modem and broadband. You will need Flash Player (unless you have it already).

26 January 2003

Peter's "Jag kommer hem igen till jul" album sold well enough to make number 7 on the best selling albums in Sweden in 2002. A very good effort, especially since the album was released right towards the end of the year.

10 January 2003

"Jag kommer hem igen till jul" has been very successful for Peter. It was number 1 for five consecutive weeks but has now dropped totally out of the top 40. This is not unusual since people will not be buying Christmas albums anymore.

A track from the album, the duet with Eva Dahlgren "Jag tror på dig" has been receiving radio airplay.

The album's title track made the Svensktoppen chart at number 10. Since the show was not broadcast over Christmas, the song did not have a chance to go higher.
