16 December 2000

We have an update on the Kristina concerts touring Sweden during June 2001 (see 6 October). The concert is being staged in 9 cities and there will be two shows in Göteborg. They will feature Peter along with the other main cast members from the original musical.

The concerts:

Peter has been making public appearances around Sweden signing copies of his new album. There are no more scheduled at this point in time accrding to the Official Site.

"Tonight" had a slow start in the Swedish charts. It debuted at number 39 but then dropped out of the charts. It then reentered the charts at number 51 and then jumped up to number 30 which is where it is currently sitting.

After dropping out of the charts, "Higher" has reentered the charts at number 33. The album is on it's way back up the charts and is currently at number 23.

"The Witches Of Eastwick" will close on 24 February 2001 and then reopen on 23 March at a new venue - the Prince of Wales theatre.

4 November 2000

To the left is the cover of Peter's new single "Tonight". The official site is still giving 13 November as the release date but several online stores are saying 20 November.

The first single "Higher" is still lingering in the charts at number 18 as is the album.

1 November 2000

"Tonight" will be released in Sweden on 13 November 2000. The single will contain a remix of the song with a new strings arrangement. As a bonus, there will be a special link on the single to the Official Site where you can hear an unreleased song.

The cast recording of "Witches Of Eastwick" has been put back a week to 6 November 2000. It can be ordered from Amazon UK by clicking here.

21 October 2000

The next single from "Only When I Breathe" will be "Tonight". It will be in the Swedish shops at the end of November and released to radio on 6 November.

The album has dropped to number 6 on the Swedish charts and "Higher" is now number 12.

The cast recording of "Witches of Eastwick" is still on track for release on 30 October in the UK. No word on whether it will be released outside of the UK. It will be a single CD. You can pre-order the CD from Amazon UK by clicking here.

14 October 2000

"Only When I Breathe" has hit the number 1 spot in the Swedish album charts after two weeks at number 2. It has entered the Finnish album charts at number 34.

The single "Higher" is still in the top ten at number 9.

The new single will be announced shortly.

6 October 2000

Peter will be joining the other cast members from Kristina Från Duvemåla for a special touring concert version of the hit musical next summer in Sweden. The dates have been announced and tickets go on sale on 9 October through Ticnet and Biljett Direkt.

"Only When I Breathe" debuted at number 2 on the Swedish album charts, being pipped at the post by Madonna's new album. The following week Madonna dropped to number 3 but the new album by Ark went into the number 1 spot while Peter stayed at number 2.

"Only When I Breathe" has now been certified gold. Congratulations Peter.

23 September 2000

8 September 2000

"Higher" debuted at number 2 on the Swedish sales charts and is currently the 7th most played song on Swedish radio. Congratulations, Peter.

29 August 2000

Peter's new single has two tracks - "Higher" and "Searching For Love". "Searching For Love" is a ballad written by Peter, Ty Lacy and Darrell Brown. The discography has been updated.

The official Witches of Eastwick site has now added some wallpapers which can be used on your computer. Look under Downloads or click on one of the following pictures. Two of them feature Peter.

28 August 2000

The official site reports that Peter's album will now be out on 20 September.

The single "Higher" is still due on 28 August and has been receiving a lot of airplay and is currently number 8 on the airplay chart.

19 August 2000

The Swedish industry magazine Musikindustrien reports that the album will contain songs written by Jörgen Elofsson & Mathias Venge, Tore Johansson, Lisa L, Esbjörn Svensson and Christer Sandelin & Tommy Ekman. Thanks to Jeffrey de Hart for this information.

The official site reports that Peter's single will now come out a week earlier on 28 August 2000.

The new look for www.peterjoback.com will be unveiled on 21 August 2000. Members can already test out the new features.

The official Peter Jöback website has given an update on the single and album.

The single "Higher" has been written and produced by Jörgen Elofsson and Mathias Venge. They have been responsible for songs by Britney Spears, Westlife and Boyzone. The single will be out on 4 September 2000.

The album title has been confirmed as "Only When I Breathe".  It will be in the shops on 25 September 2000.

The official Witches of Eastwick site reports that a cast recording album will be released on 30 October 2000 on First Night Records. The cast will be in the recording studio during September. It is assumed that Peter's two big numbers will be included - the showstopper "Dance With The Devil" and the love duet "Something".

Peter has been popping up everywhere lately.

Aftonbladet had an article today about the filming of the video for Peter's new single "Higher". The video was filmed at Arlanda airport and has a storyline similar to the movie "Groundhog Day" in that Peter is taking a trip but every time he goes to get on the plane, he finds himself back in his car driving to the airport. The video does not really relate to the lyrics of the song which is about two people together and how important it is to have someone to trust. 

The former Cheiron producer Jörgen Elofsson is responsible for the song and two others on the album. He has worked with such people as Britney Spears, Westlife and the Backstreet Boys.

ZTV (Swedish TV channel) also reported on the filming of the video. They indicated that the new album which will be out in the autumn is called "Only When I Breathe".

Peter Jöback Gets The Role That Everyone Wants To Have

Hundreds of  musical artists from England and the USA fought for the role in "Witches of Eastwick" in London.

But the producer Cameron Macintosh gave it to Peter Jöback - from Sweden.

- Sure it's great.  I'll be playing an American, he says.

Don't be mistaken - Peter is happy with life right now.

He is back in London and rehearsing flat out before the premiere of "Witches of Eastwick" on 18 July at Drury Lane in London's West End.

- When I came here the first time to do "Miss Saigon" it felt very scary. I was incredibly shy then. But today I have a new self-confidence and am able to say what I think at the rehearsals, says Peter Jöback.

To have got a role with such tough competition is of course also something to be proud of.

- All the guys my age in the West End wanted to have this role, he says.

"Witches of Eastwick" is a bold venture. The production of the new musical is costing between 50 and 60 million kronor.

What happens if the critics savage the musical?

- Then perhaps it will shut down after two months. It's a tough business, it can be hell. But I don't want to be 80 years old and regret not having taken the chance.

What is so special about "Witches"?

- It is an original role.  No one has done it before me. Besides I get to work with the very best, with people who have worked with Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's just magic.

If "The Witches of Eastwick" is a hit with the audience then it may be put on on Broadway - and of course Peter hopes to follow it to New York.

- It goes without saying, I have never been so close to Broadway. It feels like my career is on the right path now, he says.

But before the premiere is two months of solid rehearsals.

- I am absolutely exhausted when I get home in the evenings, says Peter.

Peter tries to work out as often as he can.

- There is a number in the musical where we strip ... well, take our clothes off anyway. If I'm showing off the upper part of my body, I have to be in shape to avoid standing on the stage and being ashamed, he says and laughs.

Jöback Ventures Out Internationally

Peter Jöback is taking his first steps towards an international pop career.

According to information received by Expressen, it is now decided that his coming solo album will be released in the USA. Christer Sandelin and Tommy Ekman have written two of the songs.

Peter Jöback has previously said that he is aiming for the international pop scene. And now it seems to be heading that way.

According to information received by Expressen, an American record company (probably Sony with whom he belongs in Sweden) has signed a contract with the Swedish singer.

- A record company in New York snapped him up and has decided to release his album in the USA. Jöback has longed for quite a while to work with musicals on Broadway and through this record contract, he is a step closer to his goal, says Expressen's source.

Right now, Jöback is working in the studio to have an English album ready to be released in the autumn. His manager, Marie Dimberg, does not want to confirm the information about the USA.

- Well, how amusing! He is, of course, contracted to Sony on a world wide basis so it will be they who decide if it will be released there. But I cannot confirm the information since the album is not ready yet.

Peter Jöback has written several of the songs himself and now it has become clear that two of the album's song writers and producers are Christer Sandelin and Tommy Ekman.

- Yes, that's right. He is a fantastic artist and it's a joy to work with him, says Tommy Ekman.

Peter Jöback himself got in contact with the song writing team.

- We knew each other from before. When Peter rang us, we played back a song for him and he was enthusiastic about it straight away. We are overjoyed with the result and it feels great, says Tommy Ekman.

The two song titles are "I" and "Because".

- It is difficult to describe the music but I would say that it is pop with a lot of feeling. The songs will be mixed in the same studio so there will be a consistent sound, says Ekman.

Peter Jöback has previously said to Expressen:

- I feel really hungry. I have had enquiries from overseas through the record company. Right now there is an enormous interest in Swedish pop artists so it would be stupid not to do something.

During the Spring, Peter Jöback is moving to London to play one of the leading roles in the new musical "Witches of Eastwick".

More news about "Witches of Eastwick" thanks to Gustav Sandberg and Peter's official site.

Peter will be playing Michael, the son of Alexandra, one of the witches - the one played by Lucie Arnaz. Peter will sing a ballad, "Something", as well as the uptempo number "Dance With The Devil". No doubt there will be a cast recording.

The musical is written by Dana Rowe (music) and John Dempsey (text).

It now appears that Peter's pop album will be released in the autumn.

Aftonbladet reports that Peter will be appearing in a new musical in the West End - a musical based on the movie "Witches of Eastwick". Peter will not be playing the Devil - that role will be played by Ian McShane. The show will premier on 18 July 2000 at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Previews commence on 24 June 2000. Peter will provide the voice in the Swedish language version of the family film "Stuart Little" which opens around Sweden on 18 February. Unfortunately, Peter does not sing in the movie.
