Peter's single is now available. Unfortunately, it was only in the sales charts for one week where it reached number 41. There has not been much radio or TV airplay although Peter has made a few TV appearances to promote the single, the latest being the Bingo Lotto program last Saturday.

The movie "Där regnbågen slutar" has now opened and is showing all over Sweden. SF are hosting a web site for the film in Swedish. Click here for the site.

Peter will be appearing at the "Toner för miljoner" concert being held at Globen in Stockholm on 20 November 1999. Globen's web site has more information plus the chance to book tickets. The site is in both Swedish and English.  It is also possible to book tickets through Biljett Direkt but this site is only in Swedish.

In a recent interview with Expressen, Peter said that his new album is planned for a spring 2000 release.  He confirmed that it would be in English and would be pop music. He is working in the studio during the autumn and even visited LA to meet songwriters. He has been writing songs himself. For the original article (in Swedish), click here.

11 August 1999

Aftonbladet has reported on Peter's new musical. To read the original article in Swedish and to see another photo, please click here.  Following is an English translation:

JÖBACK IN NEW MUSICAL

"Gösta Berlings Saga" will have the Duvemåla star in the lead role.

Peter Jöback has yet another star role in preparation. In a new musical based on "Gösta Berlings Saga".

- Peter has been a driving force behind the project, says text author Ture Rangström.

When Peter Jöback is in a musical, it usually means success. His performance as Robert in "Kristina från Duvemåla" made him an international star. Now he is secretly preparing his next project, a newly written musical based on Selma Lageröf's debut novel "Gösta Berlings Saga".

- The idea has been around for a while but suddenly everything is falling into place, says Ture Rangström.

Together with composer Bo Wastesson and Jöback, Rangström is planning to bring Lageröf's mythical work to the stage. The theatre which is best for the first performance is Confidencen in Ulriksdal outside Stockholm, where Rangström is the manager.

- Perhaps we can start tying things together with a concert in Ulriksdahl which could also work as a sort of audition for people who want to be in it, says Rangström.

So far there are two songs ready. One of them is "En sång om oss" (A song about us) which Peter Jöback has performed during the the recently completed mini-tour with his Duvemåla colleagues. The other is a love duet.

- Peter is extremely delighted with the idea. I remember that he already sang "En sång om oss" in the beginning of the 90s. The idea has been around for all that time, says Rangström.

At the end of August, the three men will meet and discuss the musical plans more thoroughly.

The project is still in it's infancy but by next summer we hope to have the music and libretto finished.

Peter Jöback has declined to comment on the Berling musical, stating that the work is still at an early stage.

8 August 1999

The official web site opens tomorrow.  The URL is http://www.peterjoback.com which is quite easy to remember.

It is currently expected that Peter will release a new single in January.  No doubt the album will not be too far behind.

Peter was asked by Aftonbladet about his attendance at Görel Hanser's 50th birthday party. This is the party which saw ABBA reunite to sing a Swedish birthday song for Görel. Peter is quoted as saying "It was fantastic. I was privileged to experience this." Peter also sang a special version of "Guldet blev till sand" with new lyrics and a new title - "Görel blev till tant" (Görel turned into an old lady)!

Along with fellow "Kristina från Duvemåla" colleagues, Helen Sjöholm, Anders Ekborg and Marianne Mörck, Peter has just finished a short series of concerts. They sang songs from musicals including "Chess" and of course, "Kristina från Duvemåla". The encore was a rousing rendition of ABBA's "Waterloo".  Some of the songs sang by Peter included "Jag vill inte ha nåt regn min parad", "En sång om oss", "True Love" (with Marianne), "Bredvid mej har du inte en chans" (with Anders), "Anthem" and of course, "Guldet blev till sand".

8 June 1999

Peter appeared in a concert held to raise money for the Princess Victoria Fund at Skansen in Stockholm on 6 June 1999 - Sweden's National Day. He sang three songs - "Ack Värmeland du sköna" (a traditional Swedish song), "Som himlens alla stjärnor" (a duet with Gunilla Backman) and a song from his last album "En sång om oss". The latter two songs are from the musical "Gösta Berlings saga" which Peter revealed he would be appearing in but no information as to when.

Peter also mentioned his role in his upcoming movie "Där regnbågen slutar" (When the rainbow ends). He is very grateful to the director for using him. Above is a picture from the movie which opens in October 1999.

There is still no indication when Peter's official web site will be opened. It is now four months overdue!

9 April 1999

According to Aftonbladet, Peter will be appearing in a series of concerts with fellow Kristina cast members, Anders Ekborg and Helen Sjöholm. The concerts will feature songs from "Kristina från Duvemåla", "Miss Saigon" as well as some Beatles numbers. Click here for the original Aftonbladet article.

Peter attended the premiere of the new musical "Mamma Mia" in London on 6 April 1999.

The final season of "Kristina från Duvemåla" has been extended to 19 June 1999. Peter will recreate the role of Robert for the last two weeks.

11 March 1999

Peter won a Gold Mask award for best supporting actor in a musical for "Kristina från Duvemåla".  Marianne Mörck and Lars Rudolfsson also won awards.  Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson were awarded a special prize in recognition of "Kristina från Duvemåla".  The biggest upset of the evening was the fact that Helen Sjöholm did not win an award for her exceptional performance as Kristina.  Surprisingly, Anders Ekborg was not even nominated.  Congratulations to Peter and the other winners.

After 110 weeks on Svensktoppen, "Guldet blev till sand" has dropped to number 11.  This means that this week will be the last week for Peter on this chart.  The second longest running song on the chart only clocked up 72 weeks so it will be a long time before anyone beats Peter's record.

There is no news on the official web site.  The last thing heard was that copyright issues were still be finalised.  This can be a complicated process so let's hope that they can be resolved soon.  Keep watching this space for news about the official site.

1 February 1999

Peter Jöback is working on a pop album to be recorded in English according to Aftonbladet. Click here for the original article.

The following is a translation of the article:

HE HAS JÖBACK'S SECRET POP SONGS

Star musician Bruce Gaitsch: Peter is a great singer.

Peter Jöback is secretly putting together a pop record in English.

He is assisted by songwriter Bruce Gaitsch who has previously worked with Madonna, Michael Jackson and Celine Dion.

- Peter is a great singer. I am loving working with him, says Gaitsch.

He has established himself as Sweden's biggest musical star after his success in "Kristina från Duvemåla" and the London production of "Miss Saigon".

But Peter Jöback is not afraid to take on new unexpected projects.

Aftonbladet has previously told that he has a role in Richard Hobert's forthcoming film "Där regnbågen slutar" (When the rainbow ends). And now Peter has started work on a pop record in English on the sly.

The last few days, he has been writing songs in a Stockholm studio together with Bruce Gaitsch.

STAR GUITARIST

Gaitsch is a well known name in the music business. The American star guitarist has played with superstars like Madonna, Michael Jackson, Céline Dion, Barbra Streisand, Tom Jones, Lionel Richie and Chaka Kahn. He has also written songs for Agnetha Fältskog, Chicago and Earth Wind & Fire's singer Philip Bailey among others.

- Peter is awfully good to work with. He is young, fresh and has absolutely no attitude problems, like so many artists have.

- I start to play, he sings and boom, there it is. It couldn't be easier, tells Gaitsch.

FIVE SONGS READY

He says that five songs are already as good as written. The only thing missing are the lyrics.

- It is a long way from musical-type music. It is absolute pop but a little tougher, reveals Gaitsch.

Many songwriters are interested in contributing to a new Jöback record. Bruce Gaitsch expects tough competition but hopes to contribute at least one song.

31 January 1999

An official Peter web site is in the works from Magnus Brynestam who created the official "Kristina från Duvemåla" site and the Åsa Bergh web site.

Peter has been nominated for a Gold Mask for his role as Robert in "Kristina från Duvemåla".  The Gold Mask is an award in the field of theatre and is the Swedish equivalent of the Tony awards.

Peter will be appearing in a new movie called "Där regnbågen slutar" (When the rainbow ends).  Peter's character is known as "The Star" in this behind the scenes look at the world of musicals.  The film will contain both music and dance.  Click here for the Aftonbladet article about the movie.

3 January 1999

Svensktoppen

"Guldet blev till sand" has been chosen as Svensktoppen's record of the year for the second year running.  This is the first time in the history of the Svensktoppen chart that this has happened.

The song is also the longest running in the chart at 101 weeks and it is still in the chart!  The second place getter is a long way off at 73 weeks.   It will be a long time before this record is broken.

For the full story (in Swedish) visit Aftonbladet.

Peter's show at Börsen has now finished.  He was offered the role of Tony in "West Side Story" in London but he turned it down, saying he needs a rest.   After the new year, he will perform 3 concerts in Finland and then have a break until autumn.

Peter can be heard on the track "Tusen Röster" from the new "För Amnesty" album out now in Sweden.  He performs along with Dilba, Stephen Simmons, Mauro Scocco, Plura Jonsson, Lisa Nilsson, Uno Svenningsson and Meja.
